How to empower yourself! A trip to Boston

We have been abusing the word, “empower.” Today it means you have to wait for someone in authority to give you some of their power. That’s not what the word used to mean! It is supposed to mean “the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights.”

If you are a leader, stop playing games with empowerment and get out of the way! Don’t hire people to empower, hire #empowered people!

If you are an educator, your job is to help students empower themselves!

If you are waiting for someone to give you power, don’t! You have to empower yourself! You have to GO GET IT!
